How to Program a Toyota Keyless Entry Remote

Car dealers and mechanics are notorious for nickel and diming their patrons and, while not all dealerships charge for the service, many have earned the reputation from charging or not charging customers for programming their keyless entry remotes. The method is simple and after doing it yourself once, it's easy to see why even charging someone five dollars to complete the job can make or break a dealer's reputation. The process can have you doing a bit of a chicken dance but anyone is capable of doing it themselves within a matter of seconds.

• Car key
• Keyless entry remote

1. • 1

     Insert car key into the ignition.

   • 2

     Open the driver's side door and then unlock it.

   • 3

     Remove the key from the ignition.

   • 4

     Insert and remove the key from the ignition two times within five seconds of each other.

   • 5

     Close and open the driver's side door twice.

   • 6

     Insert and remove the car key from the ignition.

   • 7

     Close and open the driver's side door twice.

   • 8

     Insert the key into the ignition.

   • 9

     Close the driver's side door.

   • 10

     Turn the car on twice without starting the ignition and remove the key.

     Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons simultaneously on your keyless entry remote for at least two seconds.

     Press and hold the "Lock" button on your keyless entry remote for at least two seconds.

   • 13

     Open and close the driver's side door.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want to program an additional remote, repeat steps 11 and 12 with the additional remote before continuing to step 13.
