How to Change the Headlights on a Toyota Avalon

How to Change the Headlights on a Toyota Avalon

The headlights in your Toyota Avalon are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle but are subject to damage. Moisture can find its way into your headlights and fog them up, making them less aesthetically appealing and possibly impairing their function. In either case, you will need to replace the headlight.

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Ratchet
  • Sockets
  • New headlight
    • 1

Open the hood and prop it up to gain access to the headlight.

    • 2

Remove the bolts holding the headlight to the vehicle body, using a ratchet. There will be three bolts around the perimeter of the headlight.

    • 3

Pull the headlight out with moderate force and detach the headlight bulb wiring.

    • 4

Set the new headlight in place. Before pushing it all the way into the headlight socket, attach the headlight's wiring connectors.

    • 5

Push the new headlight completely in its socket and tighten the three bolts to hold it in place.

    • 6

Test the headlights to see whether they are working properly. If everything is fine, then close the hood. If the headlights aren't functioning, then double-check the connectors and make sure they are tight.

Tips & Warnings

  • When pulling on the headlight, it may seem that something is wrong or that you are missing a bolt when in fact it is simply a snug fit.

  • Wear safety glasses while working on your Toyota Avalon to ensure that you don't injure your eyes.
