How to Replace a Battery for a Toyota 4Runner

Without a properly functioning battery in your Toyota 4Runner, your SUV isn't going to be going anywhere. The alternator has nothing to charge, the starter has nowhere to pull power from, and the engine won't turn over. You will need some basic tools to replace the battery.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Open-end wrench set
  • Ratchet and socket set, 3/8 inches
  • Replacement battery

      Pop the hood and use an open-end wrench to disconnect the negative (-) terminal on the battery and place it to the side. Repeat the process for the positive (+) terminal on the battery.

      Unbolt the battery tie-down from its tray using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Pick the battery up by the sides and lift it out of the engine bay, then set it out of the way. Lift the replacement battery into the tray and make sure that the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are in the same orientation as the stock battery.

      Bolt the battery to the tray using the battery tie-down strap, and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Connect the positive (+) terminal to the battery using an open-end wrench, then repeat the process for the negative (-) terminal. Start the vehicle and let it run for 10 minutes to make sure the battery is charging correctly.
