    • 1

Look in the trunk under the cover for the jack and tools. You need to jack up the vehicle when you replace the studs on a Toyota Corolla.

    • 2

Purchase a new wheel stud the same size as the one you're replacing. If you don't know the size, wait until you remove it and take it to the store with you so you insure that you get the right one.

    • 3

Jack up the Corolla and block the tire that's diagonal to the placement of the jack. Remove the tire and the brake assembly. If the wheel is in the back, you need to remove the emergency cable and assembly. If you have drum rather than disc brakes, remove the drum. With drum brakes, you may need to remove the hub and use a vise to get the stud.

    • 4

Check the back of the hub for an open space that gives you more access to remove and replace the stud. Make sure the stud lines up with the opening.

    • 5

Hit the stud with the mallet so it pushes backward through the opening. Once it's through, slide the new wheel stud into the space to replace it. Push the stud in from the back.

    • 6

Seat the stud by placing two wheel bolts on the stud on the end closest to you with angled edges outward. Tighten them and, as you do, notice that they pull the stud through the hole. Keep tightening until the stud sits flat against the hub in the back.

    • 7

Wrap up the job after you replaced the stud on your Toyota Corolla by putting all the parts back on the wheel in the order you removed them. Tighten the wheel nuts down to finish.
