How to Change a Light Bulb in a Toyota Corolla

The interior light bulbs in your Toyota Corolla make it easy to see the inside of the cabin at night. Depending on your make, model and trim level, your Corolla could have courtesy lights on the bottom of the driver and passenger side doors or just an overhead light. Over time, like any bulb, all of these lights burn out and need to be replaced. When that happens, you'll need to know how to change a light bulb in a Toyota Corolla.

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Small flat tip screwdriver
  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Socket and socket wrench
  • New bulb
    • 1

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the cable clamp on the negative terminal until the cable can be slid off the terminal. Then, pull the cable off the negative terminal. (When working on any electrical component, it's important that you always disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shock, damaging the electrical components, or both.)

    • 2

Locate the lights you need to replace.

    • 3

If the lights in your year/model of Corolla are held in by screws, remove the retaining screws on the bulb cover. If they are a tab design, gently wedge the flat-tip screwdriver under the notch in the plastic light cover and pry the cover off.

    • 4

Pull the bulb straight out of the bulb housing.

    • 5

      Insert a new bulb.
